Austin Western Railroad

The Austin Western Railroad (AWRR) is a Class III short-line railroad based in Round Rock, Texas, and a subsidiary of Watco. It operates on 126 miles of track owned by Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, running from Fairland to Giddings, with a branchline from Fairland to Marble Falls. A 28-mile section between Fairland and Llano is currently out of service but forms the Austin and Northwestern Railroad Historic District. AWRR provides freight rail services on this network.

2005: Revenue service ends between Fairland and Llano

In 2005, revenue service ended on the 28-mile portion of track between Fairland and Llano, which is part of the Austin and Northwestern Railroad Historic District.

2007: Austin Western Railroad founded

In 2007, the Austin Western Railroad was founded after Watco won the bid to operate the line, following the end of the Austin Area Terminal Railroad's contract with Capital Metro.
