Burmese pythons, native to Southeast Asia, have established a breeding population in South Florida since the late 20th century. While sightings date back to the 1930s, they were officially recognized as a reproducing population in Everglades National Park in 2000. Python sightings have increased exponentially since, with over 30,000 reported between 2008 and 2010. Their presence poses a threat to the native wildlife and ecosystem of the region.
