1997: Indigenous Peoples (IP) Rights Act of 1997

The Republic Act 8371, or the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Rights Act of 1997, mandates the representation of IPs, with formal certification by the NCIP regional director. The representative serves for three years and can be re-endorsed for another term, but may not serve for more than three consecutive terms.

2011: Philippine Eagle Foundation Search

In 2011, the Philippine Eagle Foundation began searching for eagles in Apayao following reports of large eagles in the area.

March 22, 2013: Discovery of Philippine Eagle Stronghold

On March 22, 2013, scientists discovered a stronghold of critically endangered Philippine eagles in the Calanasan Lowland Forest on Luzon island.

January 2015: Forest Protection Program Initiated

In January 2015, the town of Calanasan started a program protecting 3,000 hectares of forests under its jurisdiction.

July 2015: Discovery of First Active Philippine Eagle Nest
