Cole Caufield is an American professional ice hockey winger currently playing for the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL. He was drafted in the first round, 15th overall, by the Canadiens in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Known for his exceptional goal-scoring ability and offensive prowess, Caufield quickly became a key player for Montreal.
From 1963, Wayne Caufield played semi-professional hockey for numerous teams, including the Milwaukee Admirals of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

From 2019 to 2021, Cole Caufield played for the Wisconsin Badgers of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). During his freshman season in 2019–20, he recorded 19 goals and 17 assists in 36 games. He was selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, All-First Team, and was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Entering the 2021–22 NHL season, Cole Caufield struggled amidst the Canadiens' poor start, and was sent down to play for the Laval Rocket on November 1. He was recalled to the main roster on November 18.

In 2021, Cole Caufield made his NHL playoff debut with the Montreal Canadiens and went on to play in twenty games. He also became the first rookie in league history to record three overtime points in a single postseason.
In February 2022, after Martin St. Louis replaced Dominique Ducharme as head coach, Cole Caufield saw his ice time increase and returned to the team's top line.
In March 2022, Cole Caufield was named the NHL Rookie of the Month after leading all rookies in goals (7) and total points (15).
During the 2022–23 season, Coach St. Louis experimented with different players in the winger slot alongside Caufield and Suzuki, including Anderson, Monahan, Hoffman and Dach. The Caufield–Suzuki–Dach line generated strong initial results.
On June 5, 2023, Cole Caufield signed an eight-year, $62.8 million extension with the Montreal Canadiens.
Following the 2023–24 NHL season, Cole Caufield accepted an invitation to make his senior national team debut at the 2024 IIHF World Championship.
In September 2024, Cole Caufield announced that he would be switching jersey numbers from 22 to 13 following the death of Johnny Gaudreau.
Following the 2023–24 NHL season, Cole Caufield made his senior national team debut at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. He scored two goals in the team's group stage match against Poland, his first at the senior level.
On December 31, 2024, Cole Caufield scored his 100th career NHL goal in a 3–2 Canadiens win versus the Vegas Golden Knights.
On February 25, 2025, Cole Caufield registered his 200th career NHL point against the Carolina Hurricanes.
