At the 2024 Indian Wells tournament, Emma Navarro defeated world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 16. This was Navarro's first win against a top-two opponent, and she became the first American woman to achieve this feat at Indian Wells since Serena Williams beat Lindsay Davenport in the quarterfinals in 2001.
