Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is an action-adventure video game series created by David Jones and Mike Dailly. Later titles were developed under the oversight of brothers Dan and Sam Houser, Leslie Benzies and Aaron Garbut. Primarily developed by Rockstar North, a British development house, and published by its American parent company, Rockstar Games. The series' name refers to motor vehicle theft.

2008: Guinness World Records Awards

In 2008, the Grand Theft Auto series received 10 world records in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition. These included records such as 'Most Guest Stars in a Video Game Series' and 'Largest In-Game Soundtrack' for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
