1938: First Greek Independence Day Parade

In 1938, the first annual Greek Independence Day Parade was held in New York City, sponsored by the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York. The parade route runs along 5th Avenue from 64th to 79th Streets.

2024: Honorary Grand Marshals of the Parade

In 2024, Dionysios "Fredi" Beleri, the elected Mayor of Himara, and Dr. Ioannis M. Malafis, Mayor of Chios, were named Honorary Grand Marshals for the parade. Beleri was absent from the parade as he was imprisoned by the Albanian authorities.
