Jackson County, Missouri, situated on the Kansas border, is the state's second-most populous county with a population of 717,204 as of 2020. Uniquely, it has two county seats: Independence and Kansas City. Established on December 15, 1826, the county is named in honor of Andrew Jackson, a former U.S. Senator from Tennessee who later became the President of the United States.
