Jeju Air Co., Ltd., established in 2005, is South Korea's first and largest low-cost airline as of 2011. Headquartered in Jeju City and based at Jeju International Airport, the airline is named after Jeju Island. A founding member of the Value Alliance, Jeju Air operates both domestic and international flights. Focusing on leisure destinations, the airline has contributed significantly to the growth of tourism in South Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. As of 2011, it continues to expand its route network and fleet size, further solidifying its position in the low-cost carrier market.
Jeju Air was founded on January 25, 2005, as a joint venture between Aekyung Group and the government of Jeju Province.
Jeju Air received its business license on August 25, 2005, becoming the third major airline in South Korea.
On September 20, 2005, the airline officially changed its Korean name to its current form.
Jeju Air acquired its first aircraft on May 2, 2006.
