Jhené Aiko

Jhené Aiko is an American R&B singer-songwriter and rapper who began her career in 2002 as a backing vocalist for B2K. Initially marketed as Lil' Fizz's cousin to gain exposure, she signed with The Ultimate Group. Her debut album, planned for release in 2003, was ultimately shelved as she chose to focus on her education instead.


August 27, 2013: Car Accident in Los Angeles

On August 27, 2013, Jhené Aiko, along with her daughter, sister Miyoko, and her daughter's father O'Ryan, were involved in a car accident in Los Angeles. Aiko suffered injuries including a broken wrist, a chipped tooth, and cuts on her chin, while the other passengers remained unharmed.

2013: Influences for Sail Out EP

During the recording of her debut extended play "Sail Out" in 2013, Jhené Aiko stated she took a large amount of influence from hip-hop and rap music notably the genre's beats, and referenced Janet Jackson, Ciara, and Nicki Minaj as influences on the project.

On March 16, 2016, Jhené Aiko and Oladipo "Dot da Genius" Omishore publicly announced that they were married.
