The Campeones Cup is an annual soccer match established in 2018 between the winners of the MLS Cup (Major League Soccer) and the Campeón de Campeones (Liga MX). It is a North American competition that pits the champions of the top leagues in the United States and Mexico against each other.

September 19, 2018: Inaugural Campeones Cup

On September 19, 2018, the inaugural edition of the Campeones Cup was hosted by Toronto FC at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, and won by Tigres UANL.

2018: Competition established

In 2018, Major League Soccer and Liga MX established the Campeones Cup, an annual North American association football match.

2019: Atlanta United FC wins Campeones Cup

In 2019, Atlanta United FC became the first MLS team to win Campeones Cup, defeating Club América 3–2.

2020: 2020 Campeones Cup Canceled

The 2020 edition of the Campeones Cup, which would have been hosted by Seattle Sounders FC, was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

September 29, 2021: Campeones Cup Returns

On September 29, 2021, the Campeones Cup returned with a 2–0 Columbus Crew win over Cruz Azul at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio.

2025: 11 teams qualified

As of the 2025 edition, a total of 11 teams have qualified for the cup.

2026: Joint North American bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The inter-league partnership was spurred in part by the joint North American bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a desire to improve the level of play in CONCACAF.
