José Urquidy is a Mexican professional baseball pitcher currently playing for the Detroit Tigers in Major League Baseball (MLB). He originally signed with the Houston Astros in 2015 as an international free agent, using the name José Luis Hernández. He officially changed his name and made his debut in MLB in 2019.

In 2018, Urquidy returned from surgery and pitched for Tri-City and the Buies Creek Astros, with a 2–2 record and a 2.35 ERA in 13 games.
On July 2, 2019, Urquidy was promoted to the major leagues by the Astros and made his debut that night against the Colorado Rockies.

In 2019, Urquidy started Game 4 of the World Series for the Houston Astros versus the Washington Nationals, becoming the third Mexican-born World Series starting pitcher. He won the game, becoming the second Mexican-born pitcher to win a World Series game.
In 2020, Urquidy had a 1–1 record with a 2.73 ERA in five starts.
In 2021, Urquidy had an 8–3 record with a 3.62 ERA. He was the winning pitcher in two of Houston's victories against the Atlanta Braves in the World Series, becoming the first Mexican-born pitcher to earn multiple World Series wins and the winningest internationally born player in World Series history.
On June 26, 2022, Urquidy pitched 6+1⁄3 hitless innings against the New York Yankees before giving up a home run to Giancarlo Stanton.
On August 27, 2022, Urquidy committed to play for Team Mexico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

In 2022, Urquidy made one appearance in the Astros' playoff run, pitching three scoreless innings. The Astros won the World Series, earning Urquidy his first championship and making him the 15th Mexican-born player to win a World Series.
On January 13, 2023, Urquidy avoided arbitration with the Astros, agreeing to a one-year, $3.025 million contract for the season.
On June 5, 2024, it was announced that Urquidy would undergo season–ending elbow surgery.
On November 4, 2024, Urquidy was removed from the 40-man roster and elected free agency after rejecting assignment to Triple-A.
On March 8, 2025, Urquidy signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Detroit Tigers, but was placed on the 60-day injured list.
