Martín Pérez is a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher currently playing for the Chicago White Sox. Prior to joining the White Sox, he played for several MLB teams including the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and San Diego Padres. Pérez was an MLB All-Star in 2022 and was a member of the Texas Rangers' World Series-winning team in 2023.
In 2007, Martín Pérez was signed by the Texas Rangers as an undrafted free agent for $580,000. During this same year, he made 15 starts in Rookie-level Spokane, achieving a 1–2 record with a 3.65 ERA.
On June 26, 2012, Pérez was called up by the Texas Rangers to the major leagues.
On November 7, 2013, Pérez signed a four-year, $12.5 million contract with the Texas Rangers, including club options through 2020.
In 2013, Martín Pérez competed for the fifth spot in the Rangers rotation during spring training. On March 3, 2013, he broke his forearm. He returned on May 27, 2013, after rehab starts. He threw his first complete game on August 11, 2013, against the Houston Astros. In 20 starts, Pérez went 10–6 with a 3.62 ERA.
On April 23, 2014, Pérez pitched a complete game shutout against the Oakland A's.
On July 15, 2016, Martín Pérez got his first major league hit against Chicago Cubs' pitcher Kyle Hendricks, a single to Kris Bryant.
In 2017, Pérez had a 13–12 record with a 4.32 ERA, and the highest WHIP among major league pitchers (1.48). He also had the highest line drive percentage allowed (24.8%) of all major league pitchers.
On January 30, 2019, Martín Pérez signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Twins.
On December 19, 2019, Pérez signed a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox, which included a team option for the 2021 season.
During the 2019 season with the Minnesota Twins, Martín Pérez made 32 appearances (29 starts), with a WHIP of 1.52 (the highest in the major leagues), and a 10–7 record in 165+1⁄3 innings pitched. After the 2019 season, he became a free agent.
On February 12, 2021, Pérez officially re-signed with the Boston Red Sox on a one-year contract for $4.5 million.
On March 14, 2022, Pérez signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Texas Rangers.
