Michael Wagner, also known as Menashe Yaakov and Don Bonus, is an American musician and producer from Long Beach, New York. He significantly contributed to the resurgence of Nigerian funk and afrobeat in America during the late 1990s through his work with Daptone Records, The Daktaris, and Antibalas. After becoming a Hasidic Jew in 2004, Wagner returned to New York and formed bands within the Jewish community, most notably the hardcore punk band Moshiach Oi!.


1996: Joined King Changó and released debut album

In 1996, Michael Wagner became the trombonist and guitarist for the Latin/ska band King Changó. That same year, the band released their self-titled debut album, "King Changó", for Luaka Bop and Warner Bros. Records.

1998: Release of 'The Return of El Santo'

In 1998, King Changó, including Michael Wagner as trombonist and guitarist, released their second album, titled "The Return of El Santo". Subsequently, several members, including Wagner, joined with Daktaris saxophonist Martín Perna to form the influential Afrobeat group Antibalas.

2004: Became a Hasidic Jew

In 2004, Michael Wagner became a Hasidic Jew. Following this spiritual transformation, he returned to New York and formed several bands with musicians in the local Jewish community, most notably the hardcore punk band Moshiach Oi!.

2008: Contributed to 'The Mr. Shabbos Show'

In 2008, Michael Wagner contributed to Josh "Mr. Shabbos" Alpert's solo album, "The Mr. Shabbos Show". During this period, Wagner had converted his home into "Camp Shabbos" hosting weekly gatherings and Torah study sessions.

2009: Release of 'Better Get Ready'

In 2009, Moshiach Oi!, with Michael Wagner as a member, released their album "Better Get Ready". The band was formed after Yishai Romanoff approached Wagner to join his then-solo project.

2011: Release of 'This World is Nothing'

In 2011, Moshiach Oi!, with Michael Wagner as a member, released their album "This World is Nothing". The band included bassist Mitchell Harrison and drummer Paul Alpert.
