Pak Suzuki Motors

Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) is a Pakistani automobile company and a subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Suzuki. It is involved in the assembly, manufacturing, and marketing of Suzuki vehicles in Pakistan. PSMCL plays a significant role in the Pakistani automotive industry. It offers a range of cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles to cater to different segments of the market.

1976: Local Assembly of Carry and Jimny

Since 1976, Suzuki had been assembling the Carry and Jimny locally.

September 1982: Pak Suzuki Motors Founded

In September 1982, Pak Suzuki Motors was founded as a joint venture between the Government of Pakistan and Suzuki Motor Japan. This formalized an arrangement where Awami Auto had already been producing the Suzuki SS80 since 1982.

1982: Suzuki Samurai Production

From 1982 to 1984, the Suzuki Samurai was produced with an international 1982-1984 Suzuki F10A 970 cc carburettor engine.

1982: Production of Modified Suzuki Alto SS40

Production of a modified version of the Suzuki Alto SS40 began in 1982 under the chassis code SS80, equipped with a 796 cc F8B engine.

1984: Lineup Expansion

By 1984, the lineup of locally built products expanded to include the 1000 cc Jimny (SJ410) and the 800 cc Alto/Fronte (called "FX").

1984: Suzuki Samurai Production

From 1982 to 1984, the Suzuki Samurai was produced with an international 1982-1984 Suzuki F10A 970 cc carburettor engine.

1985: Second Plant Planned

In 1985, a second plant was planned to expand production capacity.

1985: Suzuki Potohar Manufacturing

Pak Suzuki Motors manufactured the Suzuki Samurai under the name Suzuki Potohar starting in 1985.

1988: End of Production for Modified Suzuki Alto SS40

Production of the modified Suzuki Alto SS40 ceased in 1988.

1988: Mehran Production Begins

Suzuki Mehran began production in 1988 as the "Alto".

1989: Launch of Suzuki Mehran

In 1989, the Suzuki Mehran was launched as a replacement for the modified Suzuki Alto SS40.

1989: Suzuki Khyber Production

Production of the first generation Cultus, known as Suzuki Khyber in Pakistan, began in 1989 by Pak Suzuki assembly line.

1990: Import of Suzuki Sedan

In 1990, the sedan shape of the Suzuki Cultus second generation was initially imported from Japan to test the market and sold under the name Suzuki Sedan.

1992: Suzuki Increases Stake

In 1992, Suzuki increased its stake in Pak Suzuki Motors to 40 percent. This was achieved by acquiring the Government of Pakistan's 15 percent stake at PKR 117.19 per share, totaling 172 million.

1992: Manufacturing of Suzuki Margalla

Manufacturing of Suzuki Margalla started in 1992, it used an 8-valve SOHC 4-cylinder G13 carburetted engine.

1992: Renamed Mehran

The "Alto" was renamed Mehran in 1992.

1998: Minor Facelift

In 1998, the Mehran received a minor facelift.

1998: Production Ceased for Suzuki Margalla

Production of Suzuki Margalla ceased in 1998 to give way to the replacement Suzuki Baleno.

1998: Baleno Assembled in Pakistan

The SY413 Baleno (also known as the Cultus Crescent and Esteem in other countries) was assembled in Pakistan starting 1998 as a replacement for the Suzuki Margalla.

2000: End of Suzuki Khyber Production

Production of the Suzuki Khyber ended in 2000, and it was replaced by the second generation Cultus.

2003: Suzuki Samurai Production

Production of the Suzuki Samurai by Santana Motors ended in 2003.

2004: Another Facelift

In 2004, the Mehran received another facelift.

2006: CNG Offering

In 2006, Pak Suzuki began offering factory-fitted CNG in their vehicles.

2006: Baleno Replaced by Liana

In 2006, the Baleno was replaced by the Liana.

2006: Potohar Discontinued

In 2006, the Potohar was discontinued and Suzuki Jimny with M13A engine was offered as an import model.

2012: Mehran's Carbureted Engine

By 2012, the Pakistani-assembled Suzuki Mehran was possibly the last car in the world still using a carbureted engine.

2012: Mild Facelift and EFI Engine

The Mehran received a mild facelift and the introduction of the EFi engine in 2012.

2013: EFI Engines Introduced

Starting in 2013, the Suzuki Mehran was equipped with EFI engines to meet Euro-II emission standards.

February 11, 2015: Suzuki Kizashi Launched

Pak Suzuki Motors launched the Suzuki Kizashi on February 11, 2015, at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore. It was imported as a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU).

December 2016: Suzuki Vitara Launched

In December 2016, Pak Suzuki launched the pre-facelift version of the fourth generation Suzuki Vitara as a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) vehicle.

2016: Kizashi Discontinued

The Suzuki Kizashi was discontinued in 2016 due to poor sales.

March 2019: Mehran Discontinued

The Suzuki Mehran was finally discontinued in March 2019.

2019: Production Ends

Production of the Mehran ended in 2019.

2022: Third Generation Suzuki Swift Sales

Since 2022, Pak Suzuki has been selling the Third generation (A2L) Suzuki Swift. It is available in 2 variants, all with the 4-cylinder 1197 cc Suzuki K12M engine.

2023: Motorcycle Sales

As of 2023, Pak Suzuki sells four different motorcycles.

May 2024: Interest in Biogas Plant

In May 2024, Suzuki Motors expressed interest in establishing a biogas plant in Karachi, Pakistan.

2024: Eighth Generation Suzuki Alto Sales

As of 2024, Pak Suzuki is still selling the Eighth generation Suzuki Alto in 3 different variants, all equipped with the 3-cylinder 658 cc R06A engine. AGS automatic transmission is offered as an optional extra on the VXR model but comes standard on the VXL variant.

2024: End of Bolan Production

In 2024, production of the Bolan had ended, and it is being replaced by the sixth generation Suzuki Every.

2024: Sixth Generation Suzuki Every Manufacturing

Pak Suzuki has begun manufacturing the Sixth generation Suzuki Every from 2024, replacing the Suzuki Bolan. It is being sold in 2 different trims, VX (base model) and VXR (top model).

March 11, 2025: Suspension of Bookings

On March 11, 2025, the company suspended bookings for Suzuki WagonR (all variants).
