Rio Linda is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Sacramento County, California, and is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area. According to the 2020 census, the population was 15,944, showing an increase from the 2010 census figure of 15,106.
1910: Fruit Land Company Acquisition
In 1910, the Fruit Land Company of Minneapolis acquired 12,000 acres of the Rancho Del Paso Mexican land grant.
1912: Area Subdivision
In 1912, the 12,000 acres acquired by the Fruit Land Company was subdivided, and two families settled in Rio Linda.
1913: Rio Linda Renamed
In 1913, the area was renamed Rio Linda, previously known as "Dry Creek Station". Three more families arrived in Rio Linda.
1914: Settlement Increase
By 1914, nine additional families had settled in Rio Linda.
September 26, 1916: Rio Linda Library Opening
On September 26, 1916, the first library in Rio Linda opened.
1918: Community Growth
By 1918, approximately 50 families, mainly of Scandinavian and German descent, resided in Rio Linda.
1920: Poultry Farming
By 1920, poultry farming was found to be feasible in Rio Linda, and was advertised throughout Eastern states during the 1920s.
1940: Sacramento Northern Railway
In 1940, the Sacramento Northern Railway discontinued commuter services, shifting its focus to freight due to World War II.
1942: Rio Linda and Elverta Association
In 1942, an association was formed between Rio Linda and Elverta, as the area gained recognition for its poultry production.
2010: 2010 Census
In 2010, the United States Census reported Rio Linda's population as 15,106.

In 2020, the United States Census reported that Rio Linda had a population of 15,944.
