In 2020, Laughton and the Flyers faced the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs. Laughton recorded a two-goal and one assist game on August 6, to put the Canadiens on the brink of elimination. He also recorded the overtime game-winning goal against the New York Islanders in game five. In game seven, Laughton recorded a fight and six hits in a 4–0 shutout loss to the Islanders.
