Stetson University

Stetson University, located in DeLand, Florida, is the state's oldest private college, founded in 1883. Originally DeLand Academy, it was renamed in honor of John B. Stetson, a hat manufacturer and benefactor. The main campus occupies 175 acres in DeLand, with additional campuses in Gulfport and Tampa. The university comprises the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business Administration, the School of Music, and the College of Law. Stetson provides a range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional academic programs.

1900: Stetson University College of Law Founded

In 1900, the Stetson University College of Law was founded in DeLand.

1901: Football Program Start

In 1987, H. Douglas Lee began his service as the eighth president of Stetson University, a role he held until 2009. Lee Chapel is currently named after him.

1995: Stetson Ends Affiliation with Florida Baptist Convention

In 1995, Stetson University ended its affiliation with the Florida Baptist Convention, ceasing to be considered a "Baptist school".

2003: Lynn Business Center Constructed

In 2003, Stetson University constructed the Lynn Business Center, which earned LEED certification and became the first green building on Stetson's campus and in the state of Florida.

2005: Women's Basketball A-Sun Conference Championship
