Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney

Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney, was a prominent British politician. He served in the House of Commons from 1754 to 1783 before becoming Baron Sydney. He held significant Cabinet positions during the latter half of the 18th century. He is most notably remembered for having the cities of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Sydney, New South Wales, Australia named after him in 1785 and 1788 respectively.
