West Hempstead is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located within the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, on Long Island, New York. As of the 2020 census, its population was recorded at 19,835. Being an unincorporated area of the Town of Hempstead, it falls under the representation of Councilman Edward Ambrosino.

1956: West Hempstead Public Library Founded

The West Hempstead Public Library was founded in 1956.

1961: Halls Pond Park Dedicated

Halls Pond Park, the main park in West Hempstead, was dedicated in 1961.

1967: Library Chartered

The West Hempstead Public Library was chartered by the State in 1967.
