Zamalek

Zamalek is an affluent district located on an island in Cairo, Egypt. Geologically part of the Nile River's west bank, it was separated by the Bahr al-A'ma canal in the 19th century. The northern portion of the island is primarily residential, while the southern two-thirds consist of sports grounds and public gardens. Zamalek is connected to the mainland via four bridges: Qasr El Nil Bridge, Galaa Bridge, 15 May Bridge, and 6th October Bridge.

1924: Prince Amr Ibrahim Palace

In 1924, Prince Amr Ibrahim Palace was built and it is now the Museum of Islamic Ceramics.

1983: Official Qism Name

In 1983, the official qism name for the entire island became Zamalek.

2017: 2017 Census

In 2017, a census counted 14,946 residents in the island's four shiakhas.
