Zohran Kwame Mamdani is an American politician, a member of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialists of America, serving as the 112th mayor of New York City since January 2026. Prior to his mayoral role, he represented Astoria, Queens, in the New York State Assembly for the 36th district from 2021 to 2025.
On October 18, 1991, Zohran Kwame Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda.
From 1996, Mamdani attended St. George's Grammar School in Mowbray, Cape Town, during the early post-apartheid years.
