Browns is a locality in Central Southland, New Zealand's South Island, situated east of Winton in the Hokonui Hills. State Highway 96 connects it to Winton and Springhills.

February 1931: Passenger services ceased

Passenger services to and from Browns ceased in February 1931.

December 1953: Browns-Hedgehope section closed

Due to a decline in freight from stations beyond Browns, the Browns-Hedgehope section of the railway line closed on 24 December 1953.

January 1968: Branch from Winton to Browns closed

The railway branch line from Winton to Browns closed on 1 January 1968 due to unsustainable freight levels after government subsidies for lime transport were reduced.

November 2024: Hillside School Roll
