At eighteen years old, Carlos Condit began his professional MMA journey, making a mark with a swift rear-naked choke submission victory against Nick Roscorta in the first minute of the fight in Juárez, Mexico.
On September 11, 2004, Carlos Condit was handed his first loss by submission in Albuquerque when he tapped to a triangle choke from Carlo Prater.
Condit faced Satoru Kitaoka at Pancrase: Spiral 8 in Yokohama on October 2, 2005, where he lost by heel hook in the first round.
On January 20, 2006, at Rumble on the Rock 8, Carlos Condit made his debut for the promotion and defeated Renato Verissimo with a quick TKO in the first round.
At Rumble on the Rock 9, on April 21, 2006, Condit submitted Frank Trigg with a triangle armbar, securing his place in the final against Jake Shields, where he would lose by decision.
Condit's WEC debut took place on January 20, 2007, at WEC 25 where he defeated Kyle Jensen in the first round via Rear Naked Choke.
Carlos Condit secured a victory against Brock Larson via a first-round armbar submission at WEC 29 on August 5, 2007.
Carlos Condit and Carlo Prater had their rematch at WEC 32 on February 13, 2008, which Condit won by first-round submission.
On August 3, 2008, Carlos Condit emerged victorious in an intense battle against Hiromitsu Miura at WEC 35, securing a TKO victory in the fourth round and earning Fight of the Night honors.
Carlos Condit made his UFC debut on April 1, 2009, at UFC Fight Night 18 where he faced Martin Kampmann, losing by a close split decision.
On September 16, 2009, at UFC Fight Night 19, Condit faced newcomer Jake Ellenberger after Ellenberger stepped in to replace Chris Lytle. Condit won by split decision.

Condit was scheduled to fight Chris Lytle on February 27, 2011, at UFC 127; however, a knee injury sustained in training forced Condit to withdraw from the fight, and newcomer Brian Ebersole stepped in to replace him.

Carlos Condit was originally set to face B.J. Penn at UFC 137 on October 29, 2011. However, plans changed and Condit was slated to fight Georges St-Pierre instead, but that fight fell through due to injuries.
On February 4, 2012, at UFC 143, Carlos Condit faced Nick Diaz, who had stepped in to replace Josh Koscheck, for the interim UFC Welterweight Championship. Condit won the fight by unanimous decision.
Carlos Condit and Georges St-Pierre finally faced each other on November 17, 2012, at UFC 154. Despite knocking down St-Pierre with a head kick in the third round, Condit lost the fight by unanimous decision. The bout earned both fighters Fight of the Night honors.
After the St-Pierre fight was cancelled, Condit elected to reschedule the fight for early 2012, but the fight never materialized.
On March 16, 2013, at UFC 158, Carlos Condit faced Johny Hendricks, who replaced an injured Rory MacDonald. Condit lost the fight by unanimous decision. Their performance earned both participants Fight of the Night honors.
Carlos Condit faced Martin Kampmann in a rematch on August 28, 2013, at UFC Fight Night 27. Condit won the bout in the fourth round via TKO. The fight also earned Condit his third consecutive (and fourth overall) Fight of the Night bonus award.
Carlos Condit was scheduled to face Matt Brown on December 14, 2013, at UFC on Fox 9. However, Matt Brown withdrew from the bout due to a back injury, and the fight was scrapped.
On May 30, 2015, Condit returned to the UFC after a knee injury, defeating Thiago Alves in the main event of UFC Fight Night 67 via TKO. The doctor stopped the fight between rounds 2 and 3 due to the damage Alves sustained.
On January 2, 2016, Condit faced Robbie Lawler for the welterweight title in the main event of UFC 195. Despite out landing Lawler, Condit lost a controversial split decision. The fight earned Fight of the Night.
Condit faced Demian Maia in the main event of UFC on Fox 21 on August 27, 2016, losing in the first round by submission.
On December 30, 2017, at UFC 219, Condit returned from a 16-month layoff to face Neil Magny, losing by unanimous decision.
On April 14, 2018, Condit was scheduled to face Matt Brown at UFC on Fox 29. However, Brown withdrew due to injury, and Condit instead fought Alex Oliveira, losing by guillotine choke.
On December 29, 2018, Condit fought Michael Chiesa at UFC 232, losing via submission in the second round.
Condit and McCullah divorced in 2018.
On October 4, 2020, Condit returned from a nearly year-long hiatus to defeat Court McGee by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN: Holm vs. Aldana, scoring a knockdown in the first round.
In November 2020, Condit partnered with Los Angeles-based brand Sene to release a custom denim line.
Condit faced Matt Brown at UFC on ABC 1 on January 16, 2021, and won the fight via unanimous decision.
On July 10, 2021, Condit faced Max Griffin at UFC 264, where he lost by unanimous decision.
Condit announced his retirement from mixed martial arts competition on September 17, 2021.
