In July 2023, Carnell Tate's mother, Ashley Griggs, was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in West Garfield Park, Chicago. In honor of his mother, Tate celebrates by "blowing a kiss", his way of telling her that he knows she is watching.

2023: First Collegiate Touchdown

In 2023, during his freshman season at Ohio State, Carnell Tate scored his first collegiate touchdown against Western Kentucky with a 28-yard reception from Devin Brown, appearing in all 13 games, recording 18 receptions for 264 yards and the one touchdown.

2024: Starting Role and Playoff Success
