January 4, 2016: Soft Launch on iOS

On January 4, 2016, Clash Royale was soft-launched in Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, and New Zealand for iOS platforms.

February 2016: Legendary Rarity Added

In February 2016, Clash Royale added the Legendary rarity of cards to the game. Initially, the game launched with Common, Rare, and Epic rarities.

February 16, 2016: Soft Launch on Android

On February 16, 2016, Clash Royale was soft-launched on Android for Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, and New Zealand.

On March 2, 2016, Clash Royale was released globally, combining elements from collectible card games, tower defense, and multiplayer online battle arena.

March 2017: Leagues Added to Legendary Arena

In March 2017, Leagues were added to the Legendary Arena, consisting of nine different leagues above 5000 trophies, ranging from Challenger I to Ultimate Champion. Players were reset to half of the trophies they gained above 5000 trophies at the end of each season.

2017: Clash Royale Crown Championship

In 2017, The Clash Royale Crown Championship, the official esports world championship of the game, had over 28 million participants all over the world, becoming the world's largest Clash Royale event. Sergio Ramos won the finals.

April 25, 2018: Clan Wars Added

On April 25, 2018, Clan Wars were added to Clash Royale. Wars were separated into Collection Day and War Day, with clans battling to earn cards and trophies.

August 20, 2018: Season 1 of the Clash Royale League Started

Season 1 of the Clash Royale League, the official team esports world championship, started on August 20, 2018, consisting of 5 leagues: North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and China.

December 2018: Star Points Added for Cosmetics

The December 2018 update added Star Points to Clash Royale, allowing players to unlock special golden cosmetics for level 14 cards.

2018: Esport Demonstration Event

Clash Royale was part of an esport demonstration event during the 2018 Asian Games held in Indonesia.

2018: Clash Royale League Replaced the Crown Championship

In 2018, the Clash Royale Crown Championship was discontinued and replaced by the Clash Royale League.

August 31, 2020: Clan Wars II Added

On August 31, 2020, Clan Wars II was added as a reworked version of its predecessor, featuring Training Days and Battle Days, with medals awarded based on wins and participation.

2020: Format Change in the Clash Royale League

After the 2020 season, the Clash Royale League changed its format from team competition to individual competition.

October 2021: Champion Rarity Added

In October 2021, the Champion rarity was added to Clash Royale. Players are limited to one Champion per deck, and each Champion has a special ability activated by spending additional elixir.

October 2021: Star Points Update

In the October 2021 update, Star Points became available from Level 7 onwards. Players also receive Star Points when gaining experience, which can be used to give their cards an updated visual appearance.

2021: 2021 World Finals Held Online

The 2021 World Finals for the Clash Royale League was held online due to ongoing circumstances.

March 2022: Card Masteries Launched

In the March 2022 update, Card Masteries were launched, providing rewards for reaching specific milestones with cards in competitive matches. Badges display a player's progress.

June 2023: Card Evolutions and Elite Levels Launched

In the June 2023 update, Card Evolutions and Elite Levels were launched. Card Evolutions added a new cyclical ability, while Elite Levels added level 15 and Elite Wild Cards to the game.

October 10, 2023: Soft Launch for PC

On October 10, 2023, Clash Royale soft-launched for PC on Canada, Chile and Singapore, in correspondence with Google Play Games' PC beta launch.

December 2023: Tower Troops Announced

In the December 2023 update, Tower Troops were announced for Clash Royale. These allowed for differences in strategy regarding the two smaller towers defending the primary King Tower.

June 2024: Goblin Queen Limited Time Game Mode

In June 2024, a limited time game mode introducing the Goblin Queen was added, replacing the central King Tower. Progression in this game mode followed a similar trophy climb as the primary game mode. The game mode has since been removed.

November 2024: Ranked 2v2 Game Mode Added

In November 2024, a limited time ranked 2v2 game mode was added, allowing players to team up and play competitively against other teams. Players needed to win 30 games to be placed into the competitive ranking. It was removed, but Supercell hinted at a potential return based on its successful performance.

2024: Superfest Held in Helsinki

In 2024, Supercell held Superfest in Helsinki, Finland, encompassing the Clash Royale World Finals, Clash of Clans World Championship, and Brawl Stars World Finals.

March 2025: Retro Royale Limited Ranked Edition Event

In March 2025, a limited ranked edition event called "Retro Royale" allowed players to play the original 2017 version of the game, with the original 80 cards, and without more recent features. This event ended on March 26.

July 2025: 120 Cards Available

As of July 2025, the game offers a total of 120 cards distributed across five levels of rarity: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Champion.
