January 4, 2016: Soft Launch on iOS

On January 4, 2016, Clash Royale was soft-launched in Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, and New Zealand for iOS platforms.

February 2016: Legendary Rarity Added

April 25, 2018: Clan Wars Added

On April 25, 2018, Clash Royale added Clan Wars, which separated a given war into two days: 'Collection Day' and 'War Day'. Collection day consisted of players battling in a variety of game modes and War Day matched a Clan with four other Clans with a similar number of participants and Clan Trophies.

August 20, 2018: Season 1 of the Clash Royale League

Season 1 of the Clash Royale League, the official team esports world championship, started on August 20, 2018. It consisted of 5 leagues: North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and China.

December 2018: Star Points Added for Cosmetics

In December 2018, Clash Royale introduced Star Points, which allowed players to unlock special golden cosmetics for level 14 cards.

2018: Clash Royale League replaces Crown Championship

In 2018, the Clash Royale Crown Championship was discontinued and replaced by the Clash Royale League.

August 31, 2020: Clan Wars II Added

On August 31, 2020, Clash Royale added Clan Wars II, a reworked version of its predecessor. Each week consists of three 'Training Days', lasting from Monday to Wednesday, and four 'Battle Days', lasting from Thursday to Sunday.

October 2021: Champion Rarity Added

In October 2021, the Champion rarity was introduced to Clash Royale, limiting players to one Champion per deck, each with a special ability activated by spending additional elixir.

October 2021: Star Points Available from Level 7

In the October 2021 update, Star Points became available from Level 7 in Clash Royale. Players receive Star Points when gaining experience, which can be used to give cards an updated visual appearance.

March 2022: Card Masteries Launched

In the March 2022 update, Clash Royale launched Card Masteries, providing rewards for reaching specific milestones with cards in competitive matches, tracking statistics like damage done, troops destroyed, and towers tapped, with badges displaying player progress.

June 2023: Card Evolutions and Elite Levels Launched

December 2023: Tower Troops Announced

In the December 2023 update, Tower Troops were announced for Clash Royale. These troops allow for differences in strategy for the two smaller towers defending the primary King Tower.

January 2024: New Tower Troops Released

Beginning with the January 2024 season, new Tower Troops were periodically released in Clash Royale, starting with the Tower Princess. Currently, four unique Tower Troops are available.

June 2024: Limited Time Goblin Queen Game Mode

In June 2024, Clash Royale introduced a limited-time game mode featuring the Goblin Queen, who replaced the King Tower. Playing goblin-themed cards charged the Queen's ability, culminating in the release of Goblin Babies on the opponent's side of the arena.

November 2024: 2v2 Game Mode Added

In November 2024, a limited-time ranked 2v2 game mode was added to Clash Royale, allowing players to team up and play competitively. Placement into the ranking required 30 wins, with medal count decided by trophy road trophies.

2024: Superfest Held

In 2024, Supercell held Superfest in conjunction with the Clash of Clans World Championship in Helsinki, Finland. It included the Brawl Stars World Finals, in addition to the Clash Royale World Finals.

March 2025: Retro Royale Event

In March 2025, Clash Royale featured a limited-time ranked event, 'Retro Royale,' allowing players to play the 2017 version of the game with the original 80 cards and without newer features. This event ended on March 26.

July 2025: Merge Tactics Introduced

Introduced in July 2025, Clash Royale's Merge Tactics combines the strategic gameplay of Clash Royale with auto-battler mechanics.

September 2025: 121 Cards in Clash Royale

As of September 2025, Clash Royale offers a total of 121 cards distributed across five levels of rarity.
