Eenadu

Eenadu is a major Telugu-language daily newspaper in India, primarily circulating in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Founded in 1974 by Ramoji Rao, it holds a prominent position in Telugu journalism. It is headquartered in Hyderabad. Ramoji Rao was its chief editor until 2020. However, the newspaper has faced criticism for allegedly biased reporting, particularly concerning political rivals of Nara Chandrababu Naidu and his Telugu Desam Party. Eenadu has also been cited for violating the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) code of ethics.

August 1974: Eenadu Launched

In August 1974, Ramoji Rao launched Eenadu newspaper from Visakhapatnam after achieving success with Priya Pickles and Margadarsi Chitfunds.

Since the Telugu Desam Party's foundation in 1982, Eenadu has supported the party.

1983: Symbiotic Relationship with TDP

In 1983, Eenadu and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) formed a symbiotic relationship, with Eenadu supporting Rama Rao's campaign and ultimately contributing to his victory and Eenadu's circulation growth.

1989: Introduction of District Dailies

In 1989, Eenadu introduced district dailies to expand its presence into district and taluka towns.

1989: Congress Victory

In 1989, the paper refrained from criticising Rama Rao before expressing some concerns about his leadership in response to his continued loss of public support and the Congress victory in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election.

1995: Rivals Fold

In 1995, rivals Andhra Patrika and Udayam folded, leaving Eenadu with over seventy-five percent of the audited circulation of Telugu dailies.

2004: Investigation of Margadarsi

In 2004, during the reign of Congress governments, there was an investigation of Margadarsi for irregular financial practices.

2008: Launch of Sakshi

In 2008, Sakshi was launched under Jagan Mohan Reddy's ownership as a counter to the perceived biased news from TDP-supporting papers.

2017: Magazines Stop Circulation

In 2017, Sitara, Vipula, Chatura and Annadatha magazines stopped circulation due to lack of demand in favour of web content.

2018: Ownership Report

According to the 2018 report of Media Ownership Monitor, Ramoji Rao and family own 97.56% stake in Ushodaya Enterprises.

2019: Circulation Ranking

For Q2 2019, Eenadu ranks eighth among the most circulated Indian-language dailies with a circulation of 1,614,105.

2020: Ramoji Rao Resigns

In 2020, Ramoji Rao served as the chief editor until 2020.
