Fan Expo Boston

Fan Expo Boston is a multigenre convention held annually in Boston, Massachusetts. Originally focused on comic books, it expanded to include media guests from film and television, cosplayers, an art auction, gaming rooms, and a costume contest. The event was formerly known as Boston Comic Con, but was renamed Fan Expo Boston after being acquired by Informa in 2017 as part of their Fan Expo line of conventions.

March 18, 2007: Boston Comic Con founding

On March 18, 2007, Boston Comic Con was founded as a one-day show at the Back Bay Events Center.

2009: Boston Comic Con expansion to two days

In 2009, Boston Comic Con expanded to a two-day event.

2010: Boston Comic Con move to the Westin Waterfront Hotel

In 2010, Boston Comic Con moved to the Westin Waterfront Hotel.

2011: Boston Comic Con move to the Hynes Convention Center

2014: Boston Comic Con expansion to three days

In 2014, Boston Comic Con expanded to a three-day event.

July 30, 2015: Boston Red Sox's inaugural "Boston Comic Con Night"

On July 30, 2015, Manu Bennett, Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, Brian Azzarello and cosplayers appeared at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox's inaugural "Boston Comic Con Night".

August 1, 2015: Stan Lee Day declared in Boston

On August 1, 2015, Mayor Marty Walsh declared Stan Lee Day in Boston in honor of Stan Lee's appearance at Boston Comic Con.

2016: Sale of Boston Comic Con to Informa

Immediately following the 2016 Boston Comic Con, it was announced that the convention had been sold to Informa.

2017: Boston Comic Con Opens as Fan Expo Boston

Despite advertising the 2017 convention as Boston Comic Con's 10th anniversary, the convention opened as "Fan Expo Boston".

2017: Renaming of Boston Comic Con to Fan Expo Boston

In 2017, Boston Comic Con was acquired by Informa as part of their Fan Expo line and was renamed Fan Expo Boston, retiring the Comic Con name.

2018: Boston Comic Con name retirement

In 2018, the Comic Con name was effectively retired from the convention.
