Fox McCloud

Fox McCloud is the protagonist of Nintendo's Star Fox series, created by Shigeru Miyamoto and designed by Takaya Imamura. Introduced in the original 1993 Star Fox game, Fox leads the Star Fox team. Players control Fox, primarily piloting his Arwing spacecraft, throughout various missions. As the central character, Fox is integral to the gameplay and narrative of the series.

1992: Development of 'SnesGlider' into Star Fox

In 1992, Nintendo and Argonaut Software collaborated on 'SnesGlider', a 3D space shooter for the Super NES. Led by Shigeru Miyamoto, the project evolved into a rail shooter, with Nintendo handling design and Argonaut programming. Miyamoto, inspired by Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto, chose a fox as the hero, naming him Fox McCloud, with 'McCloud' suggested by Dylan Cuthbert.

1993: Introduction of Fox McCloud

In 1993, Fox McCloud was introduced as the sole playable character in the original video game Star Fox. He is the main protagonist of Nintendo's Star Fox series, created by Shigeru Miyamoto and designed by Takaya Imamura. In the game Star Fox released in 1993, the player controls Fox in his Arwing, as he leads the Star Fox team through various missions.

2006: Release of Star Fox Command

In 2006, Star Fox Command was released, where Fox McCloud must once again save the Lylat System from the Anglars, who originated from Venom's acidic oceans. Fox begins the battle with only ROB 64 and must reunite the disbanded team. The game has nine different outcomes, with the Arwing II as Fox's vehicle. The cartoonish appearance of Fox was designed by Takaya Imamura, contrasting with the more realistic look of previous games.

In 2012, GamesRadar ranked Fox McCloud as the 30th best hero in video games, recognizing his impact and popularity within the gaming community.

2018: Fox McCloud in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament

In 2018, Fox was noted as the character used by the player "ZD" who won the first tournament of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, Jeremy Parish of Polygon criticized Fox, ranking him 41st and Gavin Jasper of Den of Geek ranked Fox as 60th, criticizing him because of esports.

2021: Fox McCloud listed among most memorable Nintendo characters

In 2021, Chris Morgan for Yardbarker described Fox McCloud as one of "the most memorable characters from old school Nintendo games", cementing his legacy in Nintendo's history.
