Jeffrey Joseph "JJ" Bleday is a professional baseball outfielder currently playing for the Cincinnati Reds in MLB. Drafted fourth overall by the Miami Marlins in 2019, Bleday debuted in the majors with the Marlins in 2022. He was later traded to the Oakland Athletics before the 2023 season and subsequently traded to the Cincinnati Reds.
In 2016, Bleday was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 39th round of the Major League Baseball draft, but he chose to attend Vanderbilt University instead.
In 2017, as a freshman at Vanderbilt, Bleday appeared in 51 games, hitting .256 with two home runs and 22 RBIs. He also played for the Newport Gulls in the New England Collegiate Baseball League during the summer.
In 2018, Bleday missed 22 games due to an oblique injury but still played in 39 games for the Commodores, batting .368 with four home runs and 15 RBIs. He also played in the Cape Cod Baseball League where he was named a league all-star and top professional prospect.
On July 20, 2019, Bleday made his professional debut with the High-A Jupiter Hammerheads, spending the entire season there.
In 2019, Bleday's junior year, he was named the Southeastern Conference Baseball Player of the Year, finishing the season with impressive stats and helping Vanderbilt win the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.
In 2020, Bleday did not play a minor league game due to the cancellation of the minor league season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the 2021 season, Bleday was assigned to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos of the Double-A South, where he played 110 games. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) for the Mesa Solar Sox, earning Fall Stars Game MVP and Hitter of the Year honors.
On July 23, 2022, Bleday was promoted to the major leagues by the Marlins and made his debut as a pinch-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates, drawing a walk.
Prior to the 2022 season, Bleday gained 20 pounds of muscle and was assigned to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp of the Triple-A International League.
On February 11, 2023, the Marlins traded Bleday to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for A. J. Puk.
On June 30, 2025, Bleday was optioned to the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators.
On December 27, 2025, JJ Bleday signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds.
In 2026, Bleday was optioned to the Triple-A Louisville Bats to begin the season.
