Jeffrey R. Holland is a prominent American religious leader and educator. He served as the ninth president of Brigham Young University (BYU) and currently holds the position of acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this role, he is recognized by the church as a prophet, seer, and revelator. He is currently the third most senior apostle in the church's hierarchy.
On December 3, 1940, Jeffrey Roy Holland was born. He would later become an educator and religious leader, serving as the ninth president of Brigham Young University (BYU) and acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
In 1959, Holland graduated from Dixie High School, where he contributed to state high school championships in football and basketball.

In 1976, Holland became the eleventh commissioner of the Church Educational System (CES), replacing Neal A. Maxwell.
In 1980, Holland became BYU's ninth president, replacing Dallin H. Oaks.
On April 1, 1989, Holland was called as a general authority and member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, concluding his term as BYU's president.
