Matt Patricia is an American football coach, currently the defensive coordinator for Ohio State. He's most known for his 15 seasons as an assistant coach with the New England Patriots, including six seasons as their defensive coordinator (2012-2017). Under his coordination, the Patriots won two Super Bowls and led the league in fewest points allowed in 2016. He also briefly served as the Patriots' offensive playcaller in 2022. Patricia was the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2018 to 2020 before returning to coaching college football in 2025.
In 1996, Patricia began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
In 1999, Patricia became the defensive line coach for Amherst College.
