Matt Patricia is an American football coach, currently the defensive coordinator for Ohio State. He's most known for his 15 seasons as an assistant coach with the New England Patriots, including six seasons as their defensive coordinator (2012-2017). Under his coordination, the Patriots won two Super Bowls and led the league in fewest points allowed in 2016. He also briefly served as the Patriots' offensive playcaller in 2022. Patricia was the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2018 to 2020 before returning to coaching college football in 2025.

In 1992, Patricia began playing football at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

In March 1996, Patricia and another player were arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault. The case was later dismissed.

At the end of the 2014 season, the Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX with Patricia as part of the team.
In January 2016, Patricia was given permission to interview for the head-coaching position of the Cleveland Browns but remained with the Patriots as defensive coordinator.

On September 23, 2018, Patricia secured his first win as a head coach with the Detroit Lions, defeating the New England Patriots 26–10. This was the Lions' first victory over the Patriots since 2000.
