Puerto Vallarta is a resort city on Mexico's Pacific coast, situated in the state of Jalisco near the Bahía de Banderas. It is the second-largest urban area in Jalisco, following Guadalajara. As the government seat of the Puerto Vallarta municipality, it includes the city itself and surrounding population centers, stretching from Boca de Tomatlán to the Nayarit border. Geographically located at 20°40′N 105°16′W, the municipality covers 681 square kilometers. It borders Nayarit to the north, Mascota and San Sebastián del Oeste to the east, and Talpa de Allende and Cabo Corrientes to the south.
