Running Point

Running Point is an American sports comedy television series created by Elaine Ko, Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, and starring Kate Hudson. The series premiered on Netflix on February 27, 2025. It was renewed for a second season in March 2025, which premiered on April 23, 2026.

June 2021: Netflix Orders Lakers Themed Comedy Series

In June 2021, Netflix ordered a straight-to-series, untitled comedy series themed around the Los Angeles Lakers, created by Mindy Kaling. Jeanie Buss was announced as a co-executive producer. Elaine Ko was initially set to write, executive produce, and showrun the series.

January 2024: Kate Hudson Joins Cast

In January 2024, Kate Hudson joined the series as the protagonist, Isla Gordon, and also as an executive producer.

January 2024: Creative Team Changes

In January 2024, it was reported that Elaine Ko left the series, and Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen became co-writers and executive producers. Stassen also became the showrunner.

February 2024: Filming Begins in Los Angeles

Filming for Running Point began in February 2024 in Los Angeles. The OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, was used for the exterior of the Los Angeles Waves basketball stadium. Macaulay Culkin visited the set and was invited to cameo as a heckler.

February 2024: Additional Cast Members Announced

In February 2024, Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, and Scott MacArthur joined the series as Ali Lee, Sandy Gordon, and Ness Gordon, respectively. Chet Hanks, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, and Roberto Sanchez also joined the cast.

March 2024: Max Greenfield, Dane DiLiegro, and Uche Agada Join Cast

In March 2024, Max Greenfield, Dane DiLiegro, and Uche Agada joined the series as Lev Levenson, Badrag Knauss, and Dyson Gibbs, respectively.

May 2024: Jay Ellis Joins Cast

In May 2024, Jay Ellis joined the cast of the series as Jay Brown.

May 2024: Series Given the Name Running Point

In May 2024, the untitled series was officially named Running Point.

June 2024: Scott Evans Joins Cast

In June 2024, Scott Evans joined the series as Charlie.

February 2025: Pepperdine University Sues Netflix and Warner Bros.

In February 2025, Pepperdine University sued Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery for alleged trademark infringement, claiming the TV series used their team's logo and colors without permission. Pepperdine University also accused Running Point for the use of their "basketball team's colors, orange and blue", highlighting the number 37 of a fictional player (number 37 also being synonymous to Pepperdine athletics), in addition to other similarities.

In September 2025, Robert Townsend was cast as Norm Stinson, along with Ken Marino, Tommy Dewey, Richa Moorjani, Jake Picking, Blake Anderson, Duby Maduegbunam, and Aliyah Turner. Justin Theroux and Uche Agada were promoted as series regulars for the second season.

October 2025: Ray Romano Replaces Robert Townsend
