Trotwood, Ohio, is a suburban city within Montgomery County, part of the Dayton metropolitan area. According to the 2020 census, its population was 23,070. The Trotwood-Madison City School District serves the city's educational needs. As a suburb of Dayton, Trotwood is closely linked to the larger city's economic and social activities.

1901: Incorporation of the Village of Trotwood

In 1901, the Village of Trotwood was incorporated from portions of Madison Township.

1942: Wickard v. Filburn Supreme Court case

In 1942, Roscoe Filburn, who farmed near 5150 Denlinger Road in what is now urban Trotwood, was the defendant in the Supreme Court case of Wickard v. Filburn.

1996: Merger of Trotwood Village and Township

In 1996, the Village of Trotwood and Madison Township merged into a single political entity, resulting in a Trotwood neighborhood (Townview) being completely surrounded by the City of Dayton and adding a large rural area to the community.

1998: Clayton Merger

In 1998, Clayton merged with its surrounding Randolph Township, making it adjacent to Trotwood.

2000: Census of 2000

As of the census of 2000, there were 27,420 people, 11,110 households, and 7,343 families living in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 38.66% White and 58.34% African American.

2010: Census of 2010

As of the census of 2010, the population was 24,431, with 10,404 households and 6,408 families living in the city. The racial makeup was 28.1% White, 68.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, and 2.6% from two or more races.

2012: Sale of Larch Tree Golf Course

In 2012, the Larch Tree Golf Course was sold and is no longer a golf course.

2016: Closure of Hara Arena

In 2016, Hara Arena, the former home of the annual Dayton Hamvention, closed.

May 27, 2019: EF-4 Tornado Damage

On May 27, 2019, Trotwood sustained significant damage from an EF-4 tornado. 500 homes were damaged and 59 homes were destroyed.
