In 2006, Vincent Trocheck competed with the Pittsburgh Hornets in the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. In 2006, at age 13, Trocheck moved to Detroit with his father to gain attention from scouts.
In 2009, Vincent Trocheck signed with the Saginaw Spirit and began his rookie season. At the conclusion of his rookie season, Trocheck received the Spirit's Fan Favorite Award.
In 2009, Vincent Trocheck's performance in the state championship led to him being scouted by the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL. He was subsequently drafted by the Spirit in the 2009 OHL Priority Draft.
In 2010, Vincent Trocheck and Brandon Saad began the 2010–11 season on a line together for the Saginaw Spirit.
On March 17, 2011, Vincent Trocheck scored his 25th goal of the season in a 5-0 win over the Windsor Spitfires, helping the Spirit to their first Western Conference division title in franchise history.
In 2011, Vincent Trocheck returned to the Spirit's top line and began attending Northwood University.
On April 23, 2012, Vincent Trocheck signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers.
After finishing the 2012–13 season with the Whalers, Trocheck attended the Florida Panther's 2013 training camp.
Prior to the start of the 2012-13 season, Vincent Trocheck replaced Brandon Saad as team captain for the Saginaw Spirit.
On January 10, 2013, Vincent Trocheck was traded to the Plymouth Whalers in exchange for Zach Bratina, a 2nd and 3rd round pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection and a 3rd round pick in 2016.
After finishing the 2012–13 season with the Whalers, Vincent Trocheck attended the Florida Panther's 2013 training camp and was then assigned to the San Antonio Rampage.
On March 6, 2014, Vincent Trocheck was recalled to the NHL level by the Florida Panthers.
On October 31, 2014, Vincent Trocheck was recalled to the NHL from the San Antonio Rampage.
On April 13, 2015, Vincent Trocheck was re-assigned to the San Antonio Rampage to finish the regular season in the AHL.
In October 2015, Vincent Trocheck signed a multi-year agreement with equipment manufacturer STX.
On December 12, 2015, Vincent Trocheck played in his 100th NHL game against the Boston Bruins.

During the 2017-18 season, Trocheck experienced another breakout campaign and set new career highs in goals, assists, and points.
In 2017, Vincent Trocheck became the first player in Saginaw Spirit history to have his jersey number retired by the team.
In January 2017, Vincent Trocheck was selected to participate in the 2017 NHL All-Star Game.
On February 13, 2018, Vincent Trocheck recorded his first career NHL hat-trick in a 7–5 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
Vincent Trocheck's 2018-19 season was shortened due to an ankle injury in early November.
In 2019, during a road game against the Nashville Predators, Vincent Trocheck injured his left ankle after blocking a slapshot.
On February 24, 2020, Vincent Trocheck was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Erik Haula, Lucas Wallmark, Eetu Luostarinen, and Chase Priskie. At the time of the trade, he had recorded 10 goals and 26 assists through 55 games.
On January 13, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020–21 NHL season was pushed back with a shortened 56-game regular season. The Carolina Hurricanes, including Trocheck, were temporarily realigned into the Central Division.
On July 13, 2022, Vincent Trocheck signed a seven-year, $39.375 million contract with the New York Rangers.
On January 2, 2026, Vincent Trocheck was named to Team USA's roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
