History of Anno 117 in Timeline

Anno 117: Pax Romana is an upcoming city-building real-time strategy game by Ubisoft Mainz, the eighth in the Anno series. Set in Ancient Rome, a first for the franchise, players can choose to govern either the Roman Empire in Latium or the Celtic kingdom in Albion. As governor, players decide whether to focus on power or economic growth and will pledge loyalty or choose rebellion. The game will involve strategic city-building and cultural influence.

2023: Development Subsidized

Since summer 2023, the development of Anno 117 has been subsidized by the German Federal Ministry of Economics with €5.7 million.

June 2024: Anno 117 Announcement

In June 2024, Anno 117: Pax Romana was announced by Ubisoft, scheduled for release on 13 November 2025 for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S. It is the eighth installment in the Anno series.

In June 2024, Ubisoft officially announced the game Anno 117.

June 2024: Anno 117 Revealed at Ubisoft Forward

In June 2024, the game was revealed during the Ubisoft Forward showcase. A live-action teaser trailer was released to accompany the announcement, featuring a public herald reciting Roman scripture. Several artworks were released and a screenshot was leaked.

July 2024: Anno 117 Ornament Contest

In July 2024, Ubisoft Mainz held a contest via Anno Union in which anyone was able to design an ornament for Anno 117. Two further community contests were held, with participants creating an in-game quest in the first and designing an island in the second.

November 2024: Official Screenshots Released

In November 2024, the first official screenshots for Anno 117 were released, showing the confirmed regions of Albion and Latium.

February 2025: Closed Beta Announced

In February 2025, Ubisoft announced multiple closed beta periods for Anno 117: Pax Romana. A developer trailer also introduced modular ships as a new feature.

May 2025: Gameplay Trailer Released

On 19 May 2025, a new trailer was released, unveiling gameplay for the first time, showing the ability to construct buildings diagonally and the impact of production building placement on their surrounding area.
