Ashley Brooke Moody is an American attorney and politician serving as the 38th Attorney General of Florida since January 2019. Prior to her current role, she worked as an assistant United States attorney and as a circuit court judge in Hillsborough County, Florida. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida College of Law. As Attorney General, Moody has focused on issues such as opioid abuse, human trafficking, and elder protection. She has also been involved in high-profile legal battles, including challenges related to election integrity and federal immigration policies.

Ashley Moody graduated from Plant City High School in 1993.
In January 1998, Moody switched from the Democratic to the Republican party. Florida Governor Jeb Bush then appointed her as student representative on the Board of Regents.
In 2006, Ashley Moody was elected to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Hillsborough County.
On April 28, 2017, Moody resigned from the court to run for Florida attorney general in the 2018 election.
Ashley Moody won the 2018 election for Florida attorney general, defeating Democratic nominee Sean Shaw.
Following the 2018 Voting Rights Restoration for Felons Initiative, Moody worked to restrict its implementation.
In January 2019, Ashley Moody became the 38th Attorney General of Florida.
In September 2020, Moody requested an investigation into Michael Bloomberg for potentially violating election laws after he helped pay felons' court fees.
On December 9, 2020, Moody joined other state attorneys general in supporting a Texas lawsuit seeking to overturn election results in several states.
During the 2020 presidential election, Moody acted as a major surrogate for Donald Trump and actively participated in attempts to contest the election results.
During 2020, Ashley Moody supported lawsuits against the Affordable Care Act, opposed restoring voting rights for felons, opposed legalizing recreational marijuana, and strongly supported Donald Trump's presidential campaign.
In January 2021, after the Rule of Law Defense Fund encouraged the gathering at the Capitol, Moody distanced herself from the organization following the riot.
In April 2021, the Florida Supreme Court sided with Moody and disqualified a ballot measure to legalize recreational cannabis.
In June 2021, the Florida Supreme Court again sided with Moody, disqualifying a second ballot measure to legalize recreational cannabis.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Moody sued the federal government over cruise ship vaccination requirements.
Moody was re-elected as Florida Attorney General in 2022, defeating Aramis Ayala.
Moody's successful challenges in 2021 prevented recreational cannabis legalization from appearing on the 2022 ballot.
In June 2023, Moody challenged a 2024 ballot measure aiming to legalize recreational cannabis in Florida.
In January 2024, Moody petitioned to disqualify a ballot measure expanding abortion access. The measure remained on the ballot but failed to pass.
In April 2024, the Florida Supreme Court ruled against Moody, allowing the recreational cannabis legalization initiative to remain on the ballot.
In January 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis selected Ashley Moody to succeed Senator Marco Rubio pending confirmation as United States Secretary of State.
On January 16, 2025, Governor DeSantis chose Moody to potentially fill Rubio's Senate seat if he becomes Secretary of State.
