Charlie Colin is a former member of the American rock band Train, known for playing bass guitar. After leaving the band in 2003, he continued his music career by contributing guitar and backing vocals to various other musical groups.
In 1992, Colin, along with Jimmy Stafford and Rob Hotchkiss, formed the band Apostles in San Francisco. They secured a record deal and released an album, also titled "Apostles." Despite the label folding, this experience foreshadowed their future musical collaborations.
Train, the band that would bring Colin significant recognition, was formed in 1993. The founding members included Colin, Hotchkiss, Pat Monahan, and Scott Underwood.
In 2001, Tom Luce, who would later collaborate with Colin in Painbirds, experienced musical success with his song "Good Day." The song's popularity led it to break into the Top 40 music charts.
While still a member of Train, Colin, along with bandmate Scott Underwood, embarked on a new musical project in the fall of 2002. They called themselves Food Pill and recorded their debut album, "Elixir," at a residence dubbed "The Paramour" in West Hollywood.
Colin's time with Train ended in 2003 when he was let go from the band. This decision stemmed from issues related to substance abuse.
Colin joined the band Days of the New in 2014, taking over bass duties from Jesse Vest. His involvement enabled the band to continue touring.
Colin and Rob Hotchkiss reunited musically in 2015 to form Painbirds, a band that also featured singer-songwriter Tom Luce. They released their debut EP, a self-titled project featuring six songs.
Colin became a founding member of The Side Deal in 2017. The band, formed in Newport Beach, California, also included Stan Frazier (of Sugar Ray) and brothers Joel and Scott Owen (of The PawnShop Kings).
In 2019, Colin contributed to musician Danny Beissel's album "Featherborn," lending his talents on guitar, bass, and vocals. The recording took place at the renowned Blackbird Studio in Nashville.
