David Blake, known as David Stones, is an American rapper hailing from Brooklyn, New York. He is recognized as the co-founder of District of Hip Hop, also known as the DOHH Squad. Stones is a musician and artist.
On July 31, 1988, David Blake, who is better known as David Stones, was born in Brooklyn, New York. He later became an American rapper and co-founder of District of Hip Hop.
In 2006, David Stones, under the pseudonym Stones, released his first mixtape, "The New Stone Age". The project gained local recognition in the Tri-State Area and led to a collaboration with Smooth Da Hustler on a revamped version of the song "Get Wit It".
In 2007, David Stones released various songs and freestyles independently on his Myspace page, building his online presence and fan base.
In 2009, David Stones signed a management deal with Gallic Wars Mixtapes CEO and released his second mixtape, "The 2009 Collection", which featured songs, freestyles, and interviews recorded on New Year's Eve.
In 2010, David Stones, then known as Stones, gained recognition for remixing "Hello Good Morning" by Diddy Dirty Money and releasing a music video that was featured on Spike.com. He followed this with a music video for his song "Steppin Out", showcased on 50 Cent's BooBooTV. He was also labeled a “HHL Co-Signed Artist” by HipHopLead.com.
In the second half of 2010, David Stones took a hiatus from the music industry after switching management, marking a shift in his career.
In 2011, David Stones changed his stage name from Stones to David Stones. He stated that the change symbolized "progression" and marked "a new chapter" in his career.
On November 22, 2012, David Stones released his third mixtape, "The Steppin' Stone: All Or Nuthin'", featuring guest appearances from Buckshot, Mark Jonas, and Willie the Kid.
In 2012, David Stones' mixtape "The Steppin' Stone: All Or Nuthin'" received positive reviews. The track "Why I Love It" was praised by No Malice of Clipse and described as a "piano-heavy anthem." "Triumph 2012", a remix of the Wu-Tang Clan song, was noted for its bravery and 90s New York sound. The mixtape also included "All Or Nuthin", a track about David's struggles and his fallen partner, Styxx.
In 2012, Styxx, David Stones's childhood friend and former rap group partner, passed away in a car accident. Previously, Styxx and David Stones performed as a group and built a reputation in their neighborhood before Styxx joined the US Navy.
In 2013, David Stones released a remix of Drake's "0 to 100 / The Catch Up" single, showcasing his interpretation of the popular track.
In 2014, Music journalist Skinny Friedman reviewed the track and gave it a 70 rating on the scale of 0 to 100.
