On December 20, 1995, Jonathan Barrett Elmore was born; he would go on to become a professional basketball player who competed for the Marshall Thundering Herd and the Calgary Surge.
In 2014, Jon Elmore graduated as a standout athlete from George Washington High School in Charleston, West Virginia, where he maintained an impressive average of 31.4 points per game and earned the title of West Virginia player of the year. During this same year, he was evaluated as a two-star recruit by 247 Sports, though he remained unranked by ESPN.
In December 2015, after initially attending VMI and later joining an intramural team at Marshall, Jon Elmore was recruited to play for the Marshall varsity basketball team.
During the 2016–17 season, which spanned through 2016 and 2017, Elmore achieved a scoring average of 19.7 points per game and earned a selection to the all-Conference USA first team.
Throughout his 2017–18 junior season, Elmore led Marshall to their first Conference USA tournament title, earning tournament MVP honors, and helped secure their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory against Wichita State in 2017/2018.
On November 28, 2018, during his senior season game against William & Mary, Jon Elmore scored his 2,000th career point, marking a historic achievement as only the third player in school history to reach this milestone.
In 2018, following a successful junior season where he averaged 22.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, Elmore declared for the 2018 NBA draft without hiring an agent, ultimately choosing to return to Marshall.
On March 3, 2019, Jon Elmore solidified his status as a conference legend by becoming the Conference USA all-time leading scorer, surpassing Stefon Jackson. This followed his earlier achievement in the same season of becoming the conference's all-time assist leader, making him the only player to lead both categories simultaneously.
On March 9, 2019, Jon Elmore officially became engaged to his long-term girlfriend, Tori Dent, who is a former student-athlete at Marshall University.
On March 19, 2019, Jon Elmore officially became the all-time leading scorer for Marshall University, successfully breaking the long-standing record previously held by Skip Henderson.
On July 23, 2019, Jon Elmore officially signed with the Italian professional basketball team Pallacanestro Trieste, which competes in the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) league.

During the 2020 edition of The Basketball Tournament, Elmore joined the Marshall alumni team Herd That, coached by his father Gay Elmore; he scored 23 points in a 93-76 quarterfinal loss to Overseas Elite.
It was publicly announced on January 12, 2021, that Jon Elmore had signed with the Hungarian team Soproni KC, competing in the Nemzeti Bajnokság, where he later averaged notable statistics including 17.3 points per game.
On August 14, 2021, Jon Elmore reached an agreement to sign with the Greek Basket League team Larisa, although he never ultimately played in a game for the organization.
In October 2022, Jon Elmore officially joined the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA G League to compete for the 2022–2023 basketball season.
