General Sir Michael David Jackson was a prominent British Army officer known for his high profile and extensive service. Commissioned in 1963, he served in the Parachute Regiment, including multiple tours in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. He was present during the Ballymurphy massacre and Bloody Sunday. He also served as a company commander after the Warrenpoint ambush. He held a staff post at the Ministry of Defence and later commanded the 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment, before returning to Northern Ireland as a brigade commander in the early 1990s.
