OnePlus Nord

The OnePlus Nord is a mid-range Android smartphone from OnePlus, released on July 21, 2020, as the first in the Nord series. It marks OnePlus' return to the mid-range market since the OnePlus X in 2015. The phone is available in Europe, India, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Some suggest its availability is focused on markets where outright purchases of affordable smartphones are favored over carrier-subsidized, high-end devices.

2008: Android Introduced

In 2008, Android, the Linux-based, open-source mobile operating system by Google was commercially introduced, which powers the OnePlus Nord.

2015: OnePlus X Release

In 2015, OnePlus released the OnePlus X, which was their last mid-range smartphone until the OnePlus Nord in July 2020.

December 2019: OnePlus phone render leaked

In December 2019, a render of a mid-range OnePlus phone was leaked, resembling a Samsung Galaxy S20 with a hole-punch display, SIM card slot, and dual speaker holes, speculated to be the OnePlus 8 Lite or OnePlus Z.

June 2020: OnePlus Nord Name Confirmed

On June 30, 2020, OnePlus officially confirmed that their upcoming phone would be named OnePlus Nord, codenamed Avicii after the Swedish DJ Tim Bergling.

July 2020: OnePlus Nord Unveiled

In July 2020, the Android-based OnePlus Nord smartphone, the first in the Nord series, was unveiled by OnePlus. It is their first mid-range smartphone since the 2015 OnePlus X and is available in Europe, India, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.

July 2020: OxygenOS Updated to 10.5.1

On July 22, 2020, one day after the OnePlus Nord's unveiling, OxygenOS was updated to version 10.5.1, improving the depth effect, indoor picture quality, power efficiency when recording at 4K/60 fps, and overall camera experience, system stability, and video calling quality.

July 2020: Reports of chassis bending

On July 27, 2020, reports surfaced indicating that the OnePlus Nord's chassis was susceptible to bending under pressure, potentially causing cracks and display issues.

August 2020: Blue Marble variant released

In August 2020, the Blue Marble variant of the OnePlus Nord with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage was released in India. Also, OnePlus released Oxygen OS 10.5.3, a small update which improved system stability, on August 5th, 2020 and an update that updated the firmware to 10.5.4 was released on August 10th, 2020 which included display and camera improvements, shortened the launch time of the gallery app, and it fixes an issue with background music playing while using the front camera.

August 2020: Firmware Updated to 10.5.4

On August 10, 2020, the firmware for the OnePlus Nord was updated to 10.5.4, including display and camera improvements, shortened gallery app launch time, a fix for background music issues with the front camera, improved video call quality, color accuracy, white balance in low light, and better color accuracy and saturation for the macro camera.

September 2020: OxygenOS 10.5.7 Rolled Out

On September 7, 2020, OxygenOS 10.5.7 rolled out to OnePlus Nord, improving 4K/60 fps stabilization, image clarity for the macro camera, Bluetooth, voice call stability, the display, and power consumption.

2020: OxygenOS 10.5.8 Released

On September 30, 2020, OxygenOS 10.5.8 was released in a staggered fashion for the OnePlus Nord. It was a minor update, with increased stability for network, display, and camera OIS.

March 2021: OnePlus Nord Receives Android 11 Update

On March 1, 2021, the OnePlus Nord began receiving its first stable build of Android 11 via an OxygenOS 11 build.

January 2024: OnePlus Nord Marked as EoL

In January 2024, the OnePlus Nord was marked as End of Life (EoL).
