In November 2023, McLaren confirmed Pato O'Ward as one of their reserve drivers for the 2024 season.
In 2025, O'Ward made his free practice return during the 2025 season, at his home Mexico City Grand Prix once again for McLaren. He repeated this feat at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and followed it up by partaking in the young drivers' test at the Yas Marina Circuit a few days after.
In 2025, Pato O'Ward finished third in the Indianapolis 500 and earned his eighth-career victory at Iowa 1, marking his one-hundredth race in the series. He also won at Toronto.
In 2026, O'Ward continued as the reserve driver for McLaren during the 2026 season.
