Sofía Montenegro

Sofía Montenegro Alarcón is a Nicaraguan journalist, social researcher, and feminist. Initially from a family aligned with the Somoza regime, she joined the opposition during the Sandinista Revolution. Although initially supportive of the Sandinista Party, she became a critic, believing it shifted to the right. She worked as an editor for the official Sandinista newspaper, Barricada, until 1994. Afterward, she established the Center for Communication Research (CINCO), an independent research organization, to operate free from government influence. Her work focuses on power dynamics, gender, and social interactions within Nicaraguan society.
