Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, created by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet, is a spin-off from Star Trek: Discovery, set in the 23rd century. Premiering in 2022 on Paramount+, it focuses on Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the starship Enterprise, exploring their adventures in the decade preceding Star Trek: The Original Series. The show is part of the expanded Star Trek Universe overseen by Kurtzman.
In 1982, the jackets worn by away team members in Strange New Worlds took inspiration from a costume worn by William Shatner as James T. Kirk in the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
In 1995, the exploratory-style title sequence from Star Trek: Voyager (1995–2001) was compared to the title sequence of Strange New Worlds.
In 2019, the virtual production for Strange New Worlds was based on the StageCraft technology used on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian (2019–2023).
