Susan Margaret Collins is the senior United States Senator from Maine, serving since 1997. As a Republican, she is Maine's longest-serving member of Congress and the longest-serving Republican woman senator. She chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee since 2025.
In 2008, Susan Collins joined the bipartisan Gang of 20 in an effort to resolve a deadlock on a bill concerning offshore drilling, which would allocate billions in proceeds to renewable energy development.
