USS John P. Murtha (LPD-26) is the 10th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship of the U.S. Navy. It's named for the late Congressman John Murtha of Pennsylvania. The ship's homeport is Naval Base San Diego.
The USS John P. Murtha will support Artemis II recovery efforts, including a dive medical recovery team. The FAA has restricted airspace for the splashdown. The US Navy will play a critical role in crew retrieval.

On 1 April 2011, the contract to build the John P. Murtha was awarded to Ingalls Shipbuilding.
On 6 June 2012, the keel for the John P. Murtha was laid down at the Ingalls Shipbuilding yard in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
In 2012, controversy arose regarding the naming of military vessels after politicians, including John Murtha and Gabby Giffords. Sen. Roy Blunt added an amendment to the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, requiring the Navy to report on adherence to ship-naming conventions.
