Caris LeVert is an American professional basketball player currently with the Detroit Pistons in the NBA. He played college basketball at the University of Michigan. Drafted by the Indiana Pacers, he was immediately traded to the Brooklyn Nets. LeVert subsequently played for the Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers before a trade sent him to the Atlanta Hawks. He signed with the Pistons during the offseason. His career has involved several team changes through trades and free agency.
Caris LeVert became the fourth player drafted from Michigan's 2012 entering class.
In 2012, as a high school senior, Caris LeVert led Pickerington Central to a 26–2 record and the OHSAA Division I state championship. He was also named an Associated Press All-Ohio Second Team high school basketball player and the Columbus Dispatch Metro Player of the Year.
Caris LeVert became Michigan's fifth first-round draft selection since 2013.
In 2013, Caris LeVert scored 8 points in a NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament final four victory over Syracuse, playing for 21 minutes.
In 2014, Caris LeVert was a second team 2013–14 All-Big Ten selection and was named to the all-District V team by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
Prior to the 2014–15 season, Caris LeVert received several preseason honors, including being named a first team All-Big Ten selection, selected to Preseason All-American teams by multiple sources, listed in ESPN's preseason top 100 player ranking, and named a John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 candidate. He was also named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List on November 24.
In 2015, after seeking advice from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee, Caris LeVert announced that he would return for his senior season at Michigan.
Prior to the 2015–16 season, Caris LeVert was named an All-Big Ten preseason selection for the second straight year and earned recognition on multiple preseason watchlists and All-American teams.
In 2016, Caris LeVert was selected with the 20th overall pick in the NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers and then traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He later signed his rookie scale contract with the Nets.
In 2017, Jeremy Lin was sidelined for the season after the first game, which opened up playing time for Caris LeVert.
On March 4, 2018, Caris LeVert scored 27 points in a 123–120 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
On October 17, 2018, Caris LeVert matched his career-high of 27 points in the Nets' season opener. However, the team faced a 103–100 defeat against the Detroit Pistons.
After being sidelined for 42 games due to a severe leg injury, Caris LeVert returned to action on February 8, 2019. In his return game, he scored 11 points in 15 minutes off the bench, during a 125–106 loss to the Chicago Bulls.
On August 26, 2019, Caris LeVert officially signed a three-year contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets, securing his place with the team for the foreseeable future.
Caris LeVert returned from a thumb injury on January 4, 2020, after being sidelined since November 10. In his return game against the Toronto Raptors, he scored 13 points.
On January 8, 2021, Caris LeVert achieved a career-best performance by scoring 7 three-point shots, contributing to a total of 43 points against the Memphis Grizzlies, while several key players were sidelined.
On January 16, 2021, Caris LeVert was traded to the Indiana Pacers as part of a multi-player, four-team trade. An MRI revealed a small mass on his left kidney, sidelining him indefinitely.
On February 6, 2022, Caris LeVert was traded to his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, along with a 2022 second-round pick, in exchange for Ricky Rubio, a 2023 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick, and a 2027 second-round pick.
On October 28, 2022, Caris LeVert scored a season-high 41 points during an overtime win against the Boston Celtics. Donovan Mitchell also scored 41 points, marking the first time since the 2016 NBA Finals that two Cavaliers players each scored 40+ points in a game.
On July 6, 2023, Caris LeVert re-signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, continuing his tenure with the team.
On February 28, 2024, Caris LeVert posted a regular season career-high in assists as Cleveland lost to the Chicago Bulls in double overtime.
On February 6, 2025, Caris LeVert, along with Georges Niang, three second-round picks, and two pick swaps, was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for De'Andre Hunter.
