Caris LeVert is an American professional basketball player currently playing for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. He played college basketball at the University of Michigan. Initially drafted by the Indiana Pacers, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets before also playing for the Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is known for his scoring ability and versatility on the court.
In 2016, Caris Levert became the first Net to post 3 steals in his debut since Chris Childs did it in 1994.
In November 2011, Caris LeVert committed to play basketball for John Groce and the Ohio Bobcats men's basketball program. Around the same time, Michigan's recruiting class became highly ranked with commitments from Mitch McGary, Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III.
In 2012, as a high school senior, Caris LeVert led Pickerington Central to a 26–2 record and the OHSAA Division I state championship. He was also named an Associated Press All-Ohio Second Team high school basketball player and the Columbus Dispatch Metro Player of the Year.
In 2016, Caris Levert became the fourth player drafted from Michigan's 2012 entering class.
In 2013, during his freshman year, Caris LeVert played as a perimeter defender, earned his first start against Central Michigan, and contributed to Michigan's Final Four victory over Syracuse, scoring 8 points.
In 2013, during the offseason, Caris LeVert trained with Nik Stauskas. He also became a key contributor to Michigan basketball, following National Player of the Year Trey Burke.
In 2016, Caris Levert became Michigan's fifth first-round draft selection since 2013.
In 2014, Caris LeVert was named a second team All-Big Ten selection and to the all-District V team by the USBWA. The team was eliminated in the elite eight round of the 2014 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament by Kentucky.
In 2015, after seeking advice from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee, Caris LeVert announced he would return for his senior season to improve his draft stock.
Prior to the 2015-16 season, in 2015, Caris LeVert was named an All-Big Ten preseason selection for the second straight year and was included in watchlists for the Jerry West Award, John R. Wooden Award, Naismith College Player of the Year, and Robertson Trophy.
In 2016, Caris LeVert was drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the 20th overall pick and then traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He later signed his rookie contract with the Nets and made his NBA debut in December.
In 2017, after Jeremy Lin's injury, Caris LeVert gained increased playing time, eventually earning the backup point guard role for the Brooklyn Nets.
On March 4, 2018, Caris LeVert scored 27 points in a 123–120 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
On October 17, 2018, Caris LeVert equaled his career high with 27 points in the Nets' season opener against the Detroit Pistons. The Nets lost the game 103–100.
On February 8, 2019, Caris LeVert returned to action after missing 42 games due to a severe right leg injury. He played 15 minutes off the bench and scored 11 points in a 125–106 loss to the Chicago Bulls.
On August 26, 2019, Caris LeVert signed a three-year contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets, securing his future with the team.
On January 4, 2020, Caris Levert returned from a thumb injury that had sidelined him since November 10, scoring 13 points against the Toronto Raptors.
On January 8, 2021, Caris LeVert achieved a career best by making 7 three-point shots on 9 attempts, scoring 43 points against the Memphis Grizzlies, with key players sidelined.
On January 16, 2021, Caris LeVert was traded to the Indiana Pacers as part of a multi-player, four-team trade. An MRI revealed a small mass on his left kidney after the trade.
